Anise K Interview
Anise K is one of the fastest growing song writers, producers and recording artists on the planet with his amazing track ‘Walking On Air‘ making waves around the world from the United States and Greece all the way back to Australia so he is definitely an artist to keep an eye on in 2013. The Melbourne-born artist moved to the City of Angels (Los Angeles) back in 2006 to further his music career. Having the chance to work with some of the most talented people in the music business such as K.C. Porter, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion) and Audius Mtawarira, Anise has rocketed into stardom while recording under the Sony Music label. Anise’s fresh modern sound and stylish look has made him a hit in the music scene and once you chat with him you will realise he is just an all round nice guy too.
We had a chance to catch up with Anise recently and get to know the man behind those cool shades.
Adrian (TGP) – Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. So, 2013 looks like it’s started off with a bang for you, how are you feeling about it all?
Anise K – It’s my pleasure to speak to you, 2013 is definitely an exciting year for me and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
Adrian (TGP) – We all know you are an electronic music producer but your music stands out from the rest. Can you give us a little bit of a run down about your personal music style?
Anise K – My style of music has a little of a Eastern influence through it. I feel that the world has so many amazing cultures and I am yet to bring out international sounds and influences.
Adrian (TGP) – You were born in Melbourne and moved to Los Angeles in 2006, what sparked the decision to move to the states and how did you know it was the right time?
Anise K – I felt that I had to find the courage to pursue my dreams and the best possible place for that was to start in L.A. Before actually heading off to LA i needed to work on my contacts so that I can have place to start within the entertainment industry. After working on building relationships with producers and artists within the industry, I had the opportunity to work with a 3 time Grammy-Award winning producer, KC Porter. Mr Porter has produced and worked alongside artists such as Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion and Ricky Martin just to name a few. When this opportunity came about, I knew it was my time to head to the entertainment capital, Hollywood.
Adrian (TGP) – Working in the music industry in Los Angeles must be incredibly exciting, what has been some of the highlights to date for you?
Anise K – Absolutely. Considering that some of the biggest artists in the world come from Los Angeles, it allowed me to connect with big names much easier. Unfortunately Australia being so far from everything can make it a little difficult to build a name and build a connection, hence why I decided a move to LA was high priority.
The most amazing experience for me would have to be 2012 Grammy Awards. Being amongst all the major recording artists and spending time with artists such as Coldplay and Rihanna at rehearsals for the Grammy’s was a major eye opener for me…knowing I was on the right track to achieve my goals.
Adrian (TGP) – Now, I’m sure a lot of readers are here to read a bit about your new single Walking On Air, can you run us through how it came to be and the meaning behind it?
Anise K – Walking On Air came about by the countless emails that went back and forth between myself and producer KC Porter. My vision in all my songs I wanted to keep positive and with a message. The meaning behind the song is the feeling you get when you detach yourself from everything and you have no worries and no materialist attachment. As Snoop say’s in the middle of his rap “Cloud 9″.
Adrian (TGP) – Did you enjoy making the video for Walking On Air? And how did you manage to find such a perfect mini-Anise for the video, surely he must be family?
Anise K – Making Walking On Air was a great experience. Having the crew and cast together in Vegas and Sydney was an enjoyable time and a huge learning curve. The mini Anise was actually such a short yet interesting process. My management team put a call out through social media for a young boy between the ages of 8 to 10 which they described a certain look. I have a cousin who lives in Brisbane and they responded to the call out and sent their sons photo through and they approved him straight away. After the selection had been finalised and I got to see who had chosen to be my mini me, I realised that it was my cousin.
Adrian (TGP) – I had a bit of a chat with Bella Blue a few weeks ago and she seems like such a sweet girl with an amazing voice. How was she to work with?
Anise K – It was great to work with Bella. As we all know, Bella has a great voice. I think I could not ask for anyone better for this single. She is a new talent and I’m all about helping and creating opportunities for new and upcoming artists. I wish her the best of success and I know that with the single exploding internationally she can use her popularity to reach her own goals.
Adrian (TGP) – And I have to ask what was it like to work with Snoop Dogg? Snoop’s verse fitted in with the song’s positive vibe really well, was it easy to get him on board with that?
Anise K – Snoop Doggy Dogg…….Where should I start. He was absolutely great work with. Snoop is a very successful business man, entrepreneur and entertainment icon. Having an artist who has sold over 30 million albums worldwide comes with great ideas and visions. When Snoop and I had been talking about the concept of the song he understood my vision and plan of execution. I said to Snoop,” Snoop, we need a track in which it has a positive message and something that young children can listen to. I want lyrics that parents will support and appreciate. If there is a good message behind it then not only the youth will enjoy it…we will have parents supporting a positive message.”
Adrian (TGP) – I’ve got a slight obsession with cool headphones and the AK headphones worn on the clip look awesome, where can I get them?
Anise K – Yes, we have been in the works for a while on my AK branding and one of the items which will be for sale worldwide in the near future is my own line of headphones. All information will be posted and share through my official channels and website.
Adrian (TGP) – Now you have Snoop Dogg on your list of artists you have collaborated with, who would you like to work with in the future?
Anise K – We are in talks with some major recording artists, but just to say who I have in my books of people who I would love to collaborate with I would have to say are these artists: Usher, Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Ne-Yo and much much more.
Adrian (TGP) – Walking On Air is shooting up the charts but I’m sure you’re already working on your next single, can we get an insight into what it is?
Anise K – Yes it is. i’m truly blessed with the reception of the single ‘Walking On Air’. It’s climbing the charts faster than we all expected. Right now it’s playing in a number of countries and I’m grateful that people appreciate what I have brought out. We are currently working on my next single. I have many sounds and tracks but it’s a matter of choosing the right track and making sure it’s perfect. One thing I can promise is that I will continue to do my best on every single I bring out.
Adrian (TGP) – Aside from an exploding music career, I understand you support various charity events around the globe and are also quite involved in the Baha’i community. Could you tell us a bit about these?
Anise K – Yes that’s right. I’m a member of the Baha’i community and I try to live my life with the philosophy of me trying to attain the balance of a fulfilling career and being able to utilise my knowledge and capabilities to give back to the community, be it through the arts, service or financially.
Adrian (TGP) – We really appreciate you taking the time to chat with us at The Global Playbook, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? (single releases, album releases, tour dates etc.)
Anise K - It’s a pleasure and thank you for allowing me to share the insights and stories behind the single ‘Walking On Air’. One thing I would like to add is that for any more information you can follow my social sites and website below. The great thing about these social sites is that you can connect with me one to one. I like to connect with my fans and I want them to know that they are able to do the same. Lets face it, without them I would not be achieving my goals.
