Today in the world of COOL things, we are bringing to you the world’s first solid bamboo electric harp guitar! Phew, that’s a mouthful!  The Bamboo Electric Harp Guitar is the brainchild of former Naval Officer and music enthusiast, Chuck Thompson. Thompson fell in love with harp guitars when he spotted a colleague playing them over a decade ago.  He’s been hooked ever since and has been working to create a more affordable instrument than the traditional kind, which can cost up to $20,000.

Thomas created the electric harp guitar to provide cheaper outlet for fans of the traditional acoustic harp guitars.  He also wanted to create one that met his musical and design requirements.  The fact that the guitar uses bamboo also makes it quite a green product.  Bamboo is a very versatile plant that can survive in excessive flooding or drought and requires very little effort to grow.  In fact it is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, which means that it doesn’t take much time for it to grow back once harvested. Oh, and it can survive in temperatures around negative 30 degrees Celsius.  If you’re looking for a sustainable wood to use, bamboo is it.

The Bamboo Electric Harp Guitar comes in three different models. The standard model costs $1,995 and features a bamboo body, chrome hardware, maple neck and fingerboard, 7 sub base strings, Graphtech bridge with a built in Acoustic Piezo’s, Piezo pickup for sub base and active electronics.

The Deluxe Fingerstyle/ electric retails for $2,995 and features a bamboo body, black hardware, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, Graphtech bridge with a built in Acoustic Piezo’s, 7 sub base strings, Piezo pickup for sub base, active electronics and humbuckers.

Finally, the third version available of the Bamboo Electric Harp Guitar is the Signature Model/ Fingerstyle Jazz which retails for $3,995.  This slick guitar features a bamboo body, gold hardware, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, Graphtech bridge with a built in Acoustic Piezo’s, 7 sub base strings, Piezo pickups for sub base, active electronics and MIDI.
